ABOUT US / SESSION INFO
What is ArtsPlay?
Nominated for Best New Business by Reston Now, ArtsPlay is a literature based enrichment program that combines art and drama. Children learn about various artists and authors through hands on art projects, stories and play exploration. Our upbeat, fun class brings together both art forms in order to cultivate creativity, build confidence and inspire the imagination of our budding artists and actors.
Who teaches ArtsPlay?
The class is taught by its cheerful owners who insist on creating a comfortable, fun-loving learning environment for each child. We are two former teachers from Montgomery and Fairfax County. We both have a Master’s in Education and our undergraduate degrees are in Art and Theater.
How old do you have to be to enroll in ArtsPlay?
ArtsPlay is geared toward preschool age children.
What does a class look like?
ArtsPlay classes always begin with a story, as literature is the basis for our art and drama play. We will start each class by reading a book and exploring the illustrations.
Students will experiment with a variety of media, including (but not limited to) collage techniques, painting, drawing, clay and paper-mâché to work on a scaffolded art project that will take several classes to complete.
Further exploration of the story will continue through pretend play and theater games. Setting, characters and emotions will be explored. Movement and voice techniques will be taught. Props and costumes will be used.
Our WINTER SESSION will be held on Thursdays from 1/11-4/12 from 1:30-2:30 pm. Doors open at 1:15. This is a 12 week session. Classes will not be held on 1/25 and 3/29.
Please note our cancellation policy below:
*If Fairfax County Public Schools are closed or have an early dismissal, class will be cancelled. Class will be held if FCPS is delayed.
*If ArtsPlay must cancel a class due to illness or weather, we will reschedule by adding time to the class or adding an additional day. A maximum of two days will be made up.
